The Big Red One

My grandfather, PFC John Gurecki, was part of The Big Red One, aka the First Infantry Division of the US Army, which is the oldest continuously serving division in the US Army, since first organized in 1917. It’s nickname comes from their shoulder patch, featuring a ‘Big Red One’, and has also been known as “The Fighting First”.
